Now, although pretty much NOBODY will read this, I feel like talking about it anyway just in case some
awesome person reads my blog.
So, I got a free MacBook Pro 1st gen from my friend about, 8 months ago. It was free because it was almost broken and we had a bet that I would love OS X in a month if I used it as my main PC
(I was still a huuuuuuuuge Windows fanboy at the time) and he won. Then, it still had a month or two in it until the battery got melted from the inside (There's a plastic bit the battery which melted, I don't want people thinking that the MBP got that hot as to melt Aluminium XD) and all the battery goo got all over the parts.
So, this is going back a while. Since then I've tried OSx86 but then I had to get a new network card for my desktop which I couldn't get to work. Also tried it on my Dell laptop and the graphics adapter wouldn't work after boot (Lame). So I was mulling around eBay looking for some cheap, minimum spec Macs as I had a bit of money in the bank (For once) and I found that eMacs were going VERY cheap. Very cheap indeed as it cost me £45 inc. delivery for a 2003 eMac w/ 634MB (I think) RAM, 38GB Hard Drive, 800MHz PPC G4 processor and a CD ONLY DRIVE.
The drive is where the problem is, as it doesn't burn I couldn't get the Tiger CD images to work (It was legal for me to download a backup of the Tiger CDs as I have the MacBook Pro still, woo!) even if I tried methods people said worked on Mac when burning disks in Windows, nothing worked.
So I tried that forum InsanelyMac, and this real helpful guy contacted me saying he would send me a retail DVD of Tiger, and I had a spare Sony disk drive which reads CD, CD-R, DVD, DVD-R and DVD-DL. So I was covered, or so I thought I was. The disk arrived, the Mac's BIOS had a password on it with it being an ex-educational Mac, I got that removed pretty quickly through just opening it up and resetting the BIOS by taking out the battery and holding in this little button on the motherboard. But still, the Mac would not boot from this DVD, it just ejected and booted into 10.3 (Panther) which frustrated me a lot, and it seemed that everything I tried just failed.
Currently, my eMac is not being used at all since I don't have an Airport card or a spare kettle cable (Although I could probably find one in the garage) and I'm bridging to my Xbox 360 (Although I still need to create a bridge for that since I formatted to Ubuntu)
And now at the end of this post, I
really forgot why I was writing this but feel free to comment if you are by chance reading all of this.
